section 1: Who we are
Welcome! Your privacy is most important to us, and we aim to treat your information with care. Our website address is https://theunofficialflorence.com (“website”). Privacy information is controlled by The Unofficial Florence (“we,” “us,” and “our”) and we can be reached at hello@theunofficialflorence.com.
section 2: what personal data we collect and why
We collect personal information that you provide to us (i.e., name, email). Some information, such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address and/or browser and device characteristics, is collected automatically when you visit our website.
email forms
To assist with sending you requested information, we use Brevo and Substack to collect and store your email address. You may opt out of the collection of your data by unsubscribing and/or contacting them using the instructions on their respective privacy pages.
comments
When visitors leave comments on the website, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture (if applicable) is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
cookies
If you leave a comment on our website, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and/or website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year. For more information, please see the Cookie Policy.
google analytics
We use Google analytics to record information about the pages a user has seen, for example the URL of the page, time of day, device used, etc. The information that we collect is anonymized and sent to Google Analytics. Google Analytics mainly uses first-party cookies to report on visitor interactions on this website.
Users may disable cookies or delete any individual cookie from your browser settings tab.
In addition, Google Analytics supports an optional browser add-on that – once installed and enabled – disables measurement by Google Analytics for any site a user visits. Note that this add-on only disables Google Analytics measurement.
Google Analytics also collects Internet Protocol (IP) addresses to provide and protect the security of the service, and to give website owners a sense of which country, state, or city in the world their users come from (also known as “IP geolocation”). See this page for Google Analytics security and usage of data.
litespeed cache
This site utilizes caching in order to facilitate a faster response time and better user experience. Caching potentially stores a duplicate copy of every web page that is on display on this site. All cache files are temporary, and are never accessed by any third party, except as necessary to obtain technical support from the cache plugin vendor. Cache files expire on a schedule set by the site administrator but may easily be purged by the admin before their natural expiration, if necessary. We may use QUIC.cloud services to process and cache your data temporarily. Please see their privacy policy for more details.
embedded content
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. To learn how to control that information and request deletion, visit the Privacy Policy of the original website.
section 3: who we share your data with

We do this to:
- allow us to pursue available remedies or limit the damages that we may sustain.

section 4: how long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
Analytics data is retained indefinitely.
Contact forms are held for one year.
For all other services, we will retain your Personal Data for the period necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy unless a longer retention period is required or allowed by law.
section 5: what rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
section 6: other information
Our website is not directed to, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 18. If we become aware that a child under the age of 18 has provided us with personal data, we will take steps to remove such data. If you become aware that your child has provided us with personal data without your consent, please contact us at hello@theunofficialflorence.com. By using the website, you are representing to us that you are not under the age of 18.
section 7: protection of personal data
We use reasonable and appropriate physical, electronic, and administrative safeguards to protect personal data from loss, misuse and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration and destruction, taking into account the nature of the personal data and risks involved in processing that information.
